This week in Mrs. Zimmer's Class!

*2 Hour early dismissal on 12/7
*STAR Math test on 12/9

In Math we are adding by "making a ten".  For an example, we are changing an equation from 9 + 3 to 10 + 2 by making a ten to make adding easier for us.  We will be solving story problems to find teen totals, adding with doubles, representing 2 digit numbers using tens and ones, and writing numerals and number words for our answers.  Students will be taking the STAR Math test on Friday morning, so make sure they get plenty of sleep and have a big breakfast!

In Science, we are talking about soil and what it is made of.  In our journals we wrote about how soil is important for people, plants, and animals.  We will also talk about what grows/lives in soil, how soil is useful, and what products come from soil.  Then, we will learn about rocks and talk about the different ways we use them. At the end of the week, we will talk about water and the ways we use it to help us live every day.

In Health, we will be discussing conflict resolution so students will be able to solve conflicts at home or at school independently. We will be doing an interactive journal activity for this lesson, and also reading Don't Squeal Unless It's a Big Deal to discuss the difference between tattling and reporting.

We have been working very hard in our interactive Science/Health journals, so we are running very low on glue sticks.  If you could help our classroom by donating some more glue sticks for the class, I would appreciate it very much! :)
