Mrs. Kirchner's Last Day

Mrs. Kirchner's last day of school will be Friday, June 9th.

It has been a blessing and an honor getting to be your child's teacher this year. Thank you for trusting me with them, and allowing me to share my joy for reading, writing, and social studies.
I am so incredibly proud of how much they have each grown this year! The first graders worked hard and have achieved many of the goals we set together during our reading and writing conferences. I know they will do great next year in 2nd grade!

Have a wonderful summer!! :)

Update from Principal Rice

May 19, 2017

Greetings Imagine Andrews Families,

As your partner in education, there is nothing more important than the safety and health of our scholars. That’s why I am writing to share with you a positive update on the threat made against our school earlier this week.

After a swift and thorough investigation conducted by local and federal law enforcement, it was determined that the threat made against our school was a prank. The person has been identified. We are working with law enforcement and within our district policies to determine appropriate disciplinary action.

Families, I want to reassure you that our campus has been thoroughly investigated by base security forces. Our building is clear of any safety concerns and our learning environment remains a nurturing, safe environment for all scholars. I encourage you to use these facts in answering questions or concerns your child may have.

Please also use this as an opportunity to remind your child that actions have consequences, and it is important we keep our school environment free from pranks and focused on academic success.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly. As always, thank you for the privilege of partnering with you to educate your child at Imagine Andrews.

Sincerely,

H. Douglas Rice II, Principal

This week in Mrs. Zimmer’s Class!

We are beginning to learn about 2-dimensional shapes in Math.  We are learning to distinguish defining and non-defining attributes of shapes.  For example, rectangles have four sides and four corners.  A square is a special kind of rectangle with all sides the same length.

In Science, we are finishing up our chapter about Energy! Students will receive a review sheet for homework the day before the test, and we will play a review game in class to prepare.  Looking at the lesson review worksheets is also a great way to prepare for the test and explains the main idea of each lesson.

In Health, we will be learning about the four food groups (fruits & vegetables, grain products, meat & alternatives, milk & alternatives.) Students will be sorting pictures of food into the 4 food groups in their interactive notebooks.

This week in Mrs. Zimmer's Class!

Today we started a new math unit that will focus on measurement and geometry.  We started to tell and write time in hours and half-hours on an analog digital clock, and that will be our focus for the rest of the week.

In Science, we are starting to learn about energy! We will learn about different kinds of energy, and  about light and shadows.  We will discuss different ways people use energy ad how things around us also use energy.
Our new vocabulary words are:
Heat
Energy
Shadow
Fuel
Electricity
Battery

In Health, we will continue to learn about what it means to have a healthy lifestyle.

This week in Mrs. Zimmer’s Class!

Report cards were sent home today! J Please be sure to send back the envelopes with a parent signature before the end of the week!

This will be a quick week!  We are taking our Math test tomorrow 4/11, and our Science test on Thursday 4/13!  We will have Math centers the rest of the week, and we will review for the Science test on Wednesday.  Our classes are excited to have Mrs. Clarke come in on Thursday to talk about Autism Awareness Month! Students are encouraged to wear a blue shirt with uniform pants to show their support!

I hope everyone enjoys this short week and has a wonderful Spring Break! :)

This week in Mrs. Zimmer’s Class!

In Math, we will be finishing up our unit 6 lessons about comparisons and data.  We will continue using comparison bars to help us interpret data and solve problems. We will have math centers on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Next week we will have a review of the entire chapter and the test (most likely on Tuesday)!

In Science, we are learning about magnets and completing a magnet project in class. We are focusing on using our vocabulary words repel and attract in our writing, and understanding North and South poles on a magnet.  Towards the end of this week and into next week, we will learn about sounds!

In Health, we are going to start talking about a healthy lifestyle and healthy ways of eating, and we will complete an interactive notebook activity.
